So, many months went by and there is a lot of gay content in mainstream TV nowadays (1 in 4 shows has LGBTQ content according to GLAAD). Which ones do you like? Which ones do you hate?

To start things off, these are my thoughts on the new gay TV characters. (Please, by all means, discuss and share it if you like, I'm happy about any kind of feedback.)

In short: Since Greek and Sirens are over, my favorite right now is Max from Happy Endings. And I hate Happily Divorced.

I generally don't like the way token gay characters are inserted into tv shows--they usually get shafted (not in the good way) and pushed aside while the focus remains on straight and heteronormative people/couples. That was definitely the case with Skins.

I don't watch much tv, but my favorite show right now is Rupaul's Drag Race; some of the boys are really hot, all are unapologetically gay and not censored to please a straight audience.

Skins was a huge disappointment in that regard. Especially since Alex's first episode was quite good, only to sideline him for the rest of the series. I wouldn't go so far as to call him a token gay - since he at least was allowed to be really gay - but he ended up being something almost as bad: The gay best friend.

@stanho19: Won't ever happen. Raj is on the show to make jokes about him possibly being gay and as long as the writers can still mine jokes out of double entendres, they won't change the status quo in such a drastic way. Plus, the show is on CBS, too big a hit, already in its fifth season and wouldn't know how to use a gay character other than as a punchline.

The second season of "Game of Thrones" starts Sunday on HBO. Apparently one of the claimants to the throne has a secret boyfriend.

Not only apparently, we already saw the boyfriend in the first season and they even had a semi-sex scene together. It was the only scene they had together all season though.

There is Danny on "Teen Wolf". But unlike all the other shows with gay high-schoolers (Glee), he's a tall, strapping jock boy, the goalie on the lacrosse team...

So far he's been a minor character, but he's also been key to the story line, and rumor has it that he'll have a much larger role in the second season...

I wouldn't say he's key to the storyline, but so far Danny is one of my favorite examples of successfully integrating a gay character in a mainstream show/cast.

Yeah, totally agree about Alex. I so fucking loved him when i first saw him, he is cute, crazy, funny...
But i think that's the advantages and drawbacks of the Skins' system. I mean they make 2 seasons with a cast because they want to be the opposite of US teenage drama show (One Tree Hill or others CW shows). And so they are, the rhythm is more dynamic. But finally they don't have enough time to develop all the characters and just when you started to like a character, you know you won't see him anymore.
Skins writting system (each episode focus on one character) is really frustrating. It was the same problem with Maxxie, we saw his boyfriend in a cut scene and that's all.

About Teen Wolf, for a moment i thought Stiles was gay and i wished he was, i really like Stiles.

That wasn't actually a cut scene, it was a so-called bonus scene, made exclusively for the Internet and never intended to appear in an on-air episode. Still, Maxxie had more to do than Alex, but he also had a whole season more.

And of course you like Stiles! Stiles is the greatest thing about Teen Wolf. I mean, I love pretty much everything about it, but seriously, Stiles makes half the show.
I'm pretty happy with the gay character we've got on Teen Wolf though.

I think that Scott asking him to dance to keep from getting kicked out could be considered a key moment in the storyline, as well as him hacking the records for Stiles and Derek

Those were minor plot points, not exactly key moments. A key moment in drama means a moment that changes everything. For Teen Wolf those would be more along the lines of the unveiling of the identity of the Alpha or Alison learning the truth about her family/Scott, but not really the two scenes you mentioned (which I totally love and also singled out in my post).

I've always wondered why Stiles didn't call Danny again when the Alpha forced him to track Scott in the parking garage.

One of the rumors going around is that in season 2, Stiles gets into a relationship with Danny. Maybe he didn't call him to protect him...
