Atlantic by Simon Winchester

I love every book Simon Winchester has written, the ones about the OED, the English geologist William Smith, the great Sinologist Joseph Needham, the San Francisco earthquake of 1906, the Krakatoa eruption of 1883, etc.

Olga by Bernhard Schlink (2020)

German author Bernhard Schlink is best known for his international bestseller "The Reader." In 2008, the novel was adapted to film, a huge success starring Kate Winslet and David Kross. In a way, Schlink's new novel, "Olga," is reminiscent of "The Reader" in that it echoes the constellation of a younger man and an older woman and their approach to German history and the past.

Sounds very interesting. Till now I haven't heard from this novel. I'll look tomorrow in my bookshop.

I'm getting through the Castle Perilous series. It's a humorous fantasy series.

"The Berlin of Sally Bowles", its a compendium of novels and short-stories by Christopher Isherwood. Set in 1930's Berlin and the cabaret scene of the time and the eccentric and scandalous characters that inhabited it. Based on Isherwood's own experiences of living there at the time and expressing his gay sexuality with a freedom denied him in the UK.
Dark, funny, witty and overshadowed by menace of the rise of fascism.

Hi Maxxed5 sorry, perhaps I'm a nidpicker - but never ever there was Fascism in Germany - that was ONLY in Italy. In Germany was it the Nazism.

Well I know I'm a nidpicker - but so it is historically correct. :p
