TWINLESS (2025)

A young man grieving the loss of his twin brother joins a support group for "twinless twins." Imdb

Where to start. Well there are excellent performances from Dylan O'Brien and James Sweeney (who also wrote & directed). I don't want to say much about the plot and happily the trailer does not give too much away. You could call this a strong drama with some gay interest; or a heavy satire; there is some laugh-out-loud dialogue coupled with some dark themes.

There is a quote in the trailer from a New York Times review "From here the less you know the better" I agree, watch the trailer but better not to read anymore about it.... just grab a copy and give it a watch.

I won't be surprised if it gets on the award nominations. Recommended

Twinless

A little darker and sadder than I expected, uncomfortable at times with some humor thrown in. Dylan O'Brien and James Sweeney were both very good. I'd give it a 7 out of 10.

I enjoyed this tense drama, An excellent script from Aaron Sorkin and an ensemble cast including Mark Rylance; Frank Langella; Joseph Gordon- Levitt; Eddie Redmayne; Yahya Abdul-Mateen II; and Michael Keaton

THE WILDERNESS (2025)


Troubled youths attend a Wilderness Therapy program in Utah's desert, navigating personal challenges amidst the harsh outback environment. Imdb

I was drawn to this as Hunter Doohan stars, along with Lamar Johnson and Aaron Holliday. It's gorgeous to look at, but as it's filmed in the Utah Desert that's not difficult and as the program consists of long hikes through the dry hills and ravines and setting up camp each night in a new location we do get to see a lot of it. A powerful narrative with some harrowing moments.

When his supervisors at the CIA refuse to take action after his wife is killed in a London terrorist attack, a decoder takes matters into his own hands. Imdb

Rami Malek; Laurence Fishburne and Rachel Brosnahan star in this tense and very entertaining thriller. Malek is excellent as usual.

THE IMITATION GAME (2014)

During World War II, the English mathematical genius Alan Turing tries to crack the German Enigma code with help from fellow mathematicians while attempting to come to terms with his troubled private life. Imdb

A great cast (Benedict Cumberbatch; Kiera Knightly; Mark Strong; Charles Dance; Rory Kinnear and Matthew Goode) and script mean that what could have been a dry pedestrian bio-pic is a highly entertaining story of the cracking of the fiendishly complex Enigma coding machine. My only criticism is that there was no description of how the Enigma machine actually worked which would have put there success in cracking it into perspective

Early in this Korean movie the main character shouts "What is happening?"... I shouted back "Good question, I haven't a fucking clue" but eventually the plot settles down and things get "explained" and once you get around the surreal craziness of people swapping bodies every 12 hours due to a drug injection you can enjoy an action movie with car chased and fist fights.

EXIT 8 (2025)

A man becomes increasingly desperate when he realizes he is trapped in a subway station, needing to complete a mission to get out.

This is a very weird Japanese film.

Is it surreal? - Yes
Is it a psychological thriller? - Kind of
Does it make ANY sense? - No, absolutely not.
Could the concept have come from some student film makers getting stoned and ending up lost in the Tokyo subway tunnels? - Maybe.... and that would explain a lot.
Did I keep repeating "WTF is going on" when I watched it? - Oh Yes
Is the M.C. Escher poster of the Mobius Strip very deliberate? - Yes I'm sure it is.

I cannot play the trailer here due to actor age but go check it out to get a feel for how much of a mind-fuck this is.....


Did I absolutely LOVE it? - Oh yes

This melancholic bittersweet drama stars Brian Cox & Allan Cumming. I guess the Scottish tourist board will love this as there is much beautiful scenery on show. As to the plot well not a lot happens and it's all very pedestrian, a bit soppy and sentimental.

I'm not really a Frank Grillo fan but this kept popping up on those "great films you might have missed" videos so I thought I'd give it a go. It's dumb but fun for the most part.

Russel Crowe stars. In a more iconic role he asks "Are you not entertained?"... not with this pile of poo we aren't. It starts off pretty slow and uninteresting then for some reason they introduce a female character who has the same level of irritation as Ja Ja Binks - time to switch off early.
