Haven't seen it yet b/c I was overseas when it was released, and now I keep hearing it's only ok or bad

The funny thing is that 4-5 years ago, the film's director Ridley Scott said that he realized that Science Fiction film was dead, that nothing could top "2001: A Space Odyssey" and that all the new science fiction films recycle things we've already seen before, and over compensate weak story lines with special effects.. so I wonder why he felt the need to make a sci-fi movie
