I actually just watched it for the first time since it originally came out and I like it a lot despite some plot holes. I think it was much better than the 2006 attempt to continue the old movies, and the old movies were not that good anyways...
Also when compared to modern day superhero movies, it's in definitely a better place for the start of a franchise than say "Batman Begins" was..It is also better than most of the recent Marvel films
I thought Man of Steel was a little too brainy, too, and a tad too long. I liked the birth and war on his planet, but somewhere in between they got too sentimental with Kansas and his wanderings.
I thought the Batman franchise was actually a good turn away from the original goofy 60's series. Batman as a dark and shady character, you can imagine that he's got more bats in the closet than his parents' death. He may be, indeed, capable of descending to really dark places. you can picture in one of his next movies doing something for which he hates himself.
