THE BALLAD OF WALLIS ISLAND (2025)

Written by and starring uk comedians Tim Key and Tom Baston this is one of those feel-good; gentle comedies with a touch of heart warming nostalgia. The cast and script are great and the cinematography makes excellent use of the superb location.

I loved THE RAID so when I see that the writer/director of that has a new movie starring Tom Hardy & Forest Whitaker I'm in..... trouble is whereas THE RAID had some style and a plot and characters worth investing in this has just the ultra-violence with not much else. It's just one big fight after another and at just over the hour I was bored and switched it off. Why did Tom & Forest agree to be in it? I guess they looked at the zeros on the paycheques and thought "Yeah that will do nicely"

Carry On Cabby 1963
The best of all the carry on series, the only one that Hattie Jaques really enjoyed making. Most carry ons are a lot of comic sketches sewn together, this one has a fully developed story and none of the purile innuendo that makes the later films embarassing to watch. Anything with Hattie in must be good.

This was the hardest and most shocking war movie I've ever seen. Here you will not see Generals or other officers, but only the
"simple" soldiers which have to fight for their life (let me ask: for whom or for what?) This film really is a nail-biter! And the most shocking thing is: this film is made from true events! How will these ex-soldiers be able to move past these experiences?
I highly recommend it!

Thankyou for bringing up this film, which I had not heard of before. I love a nice dystopia. Completely believable, it creates its own world, but you do need to be in the mood for something so heavy. Double plus good.
Is it normal now for end credits to take up a full ten minutes? They must have listed the names of everyone in London.

Oh dear, this is one of those rarities - a Gerard Butler movie that is not worth watching. I'm not expecting his movies to be up there in the Oscar nominations or lauded for cinematography etc but usually they are dumb but a lot of fun. This one was not.

I was prompted toward this by one of those algorithms that thinks it knows what I would like ...... it was wrong I couldn't get into this and gave up after 25mins

RUST (2024) .... no trailer due to actor age

An orphaned boy of 13 left to fend for himself and his younger brother in 1880s Wyoming is sentenced to hang for the accidental killing of a local rancher. His estranged grandfather breaks him out of jail and they go on the run to Mexico. Imdb

Alec Baldwin stars in this solid enough western, infamous due to the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins who certainly did some great work on this movie.

Damien Lewis stars. I saw this on the R@kuten TV free site and wasn't sure if I had seen it before. About 25/30mins in I realised I had seen it before so that shows how memorable it was the first time around.

I gave this a go as John Boyega stars but it's slow and on the depressing side. I couldn't get into it and gave up well before the end.

I tried watching this a while back - I had heard it was "a kind of musical" but as it stars George MacKay; Tilda Swinton; Michael Shannon and Tim McInnerny I thought I'd give it a go. As you say some awful tunes singing - not one to keep and re-watch.

The final(?) instalment in the Denzel Washington action series and it's good. I like the way they liven up the plot by switching from the US to Italy.
