I'm not a fan of John Cena and haven't found a movie with him in that I thought was any good. This "action comedy caper" co-starring Idris Elba has not changed my mind (or at least the first 35mins or so, at which point I gave up and switched off)

THE DEVIL OUTSIDE (2018) ... no trailer due to actor age

A teenager who has been raised as an evangelical Christian questions his beliefs when he is caught between the influence of his mother and a new, rebellious friend at school.

I was pointed towards this via one of those "...because you watched this..." algorithms. The acting was passable, the camera work was good but it didn't grab me.

Not the best of the recent Jason Statham movies. Most of his movies have a more straight forward plot to move from one scene of punchy; stabby; shooty to the next. This had all of that plus some stereotypical russian gangsters (with very odd dress sense)

A wonderful and deeply moving movie. VERY RECOMMENDED.

A group of survivors of the rage virus live on a small island. When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors. Imdb

I'd heard good things about this sequel to 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later but it wasn't for me and I didn't even make it to 28mins before hitting the off button.

A spin-off tale in the John Wick universe and I'm surprised they didn't name the main female character Joanne Wick 'cos that's essentially who she is. As you would expect from the franchise much much hitty; kicky; stabby; slappy; explosions stuff...with the interesting addition of flame throwers.

Dumb but fun.

A MAN OF REASON (2022) ...no trailer dur to actor age

After spending a decade in prison, a hitman learns that he has a daughter and just wants a chance at a normal life. But his former mob boss wants him back at any cost, sending merciless assassins after him. Imdb

I was pointed to this Korean movie as it is written & directed by the same guy who gave us the thoroughly wonderful (and utterly bonkers) THE GOOD, THE BAD,THE WIERD which I reviewed some time ago. (and really should enjoy with another watch)

This looks like a typical Korean gangster revenge/action movie but it's tricky to be sure 'cos some of the subtitles were not there and some made little, if no sense. For example when the gangster boss is talking to his main assistant (an evil son-of-a-bitch who gets his rewards later) he says

"That example who why washing machine eh? but lectures what does he know but that's all fine washing machine"....so that makes perfect sense and who can argue with that?

I kept watching as I had opened a bottle of german Riesling and I had to finish that anyway and it went down a treat. Maybe a well chilled Riesling in blueglass (not bluegrass - I'm not a fan of Appalachian banjo music) is the perfect accompaniment to bonkers Korean movies?

DEATH OF A UNICORN (2025) ... no trailer - too many spoilers

A father and daughter accidentally hit and kill a unicorn while en-route to a weekend retreat, where his billionaire boss seeks to exploit the creature's miraculous curative properties. Imdb

When I saw that this is from A24 and stars (amongst others) Richard E Grant and Will Poulter) that was enough for me and I was already in and it didn't disappoint. A dark satire, at times very funny at times very gory with little tell-tale homages to several other classic movies (no clues, no spoilers) a cracking popcorn movie .... I enjoyed it. A perfect accompaniment to another bottle of Riesling

Jurassic World Rebirth, it was an okay movie... It wasn't a bad movie but didn't stand out either and few things in the movie made me say "well that's pretty convenient". lol

THE LIFE OF CHUCK (2025)

A life-affirming, genre-bending story about three chapters in the life of an ordinary man named Charles Krantz. Imdb

This stars Tom Hiddleston; Chiwetel Ejiofor and Mark Hammill amongst others and is from a Stephen King short story. I loved the opening chapter but for me it all went a bit flat after that.

WALLACE AND GROMIT : VENGANCE MOST FOWL (2024)

Maybe I wasn't in the right mood. Maybe it was still just too hot and humid to enjoy any movie but I gave up around halfway... Wallace & Gromit - Movie Most Unfunny?

OUTLAW JOHNNY BLACK (2023)

Hell bent on avenging the death of his father, Johnny Black vows to gun down Brett Clayton and becomes a wanted man in the process while posing as a preacher in a small mining town that's been taken over by a notorious Land Baron. Imdb

Written; directed & starring Michael Jai White this is supposed to be blaxploition-style comedy-western. For me the laughs fell flat and I gave up after 40 mins or so. Maybe MJ White should have got another director in?

Having loved the original animated trilogy I was apprehensive about watching this live action/CGI re-make but I needn't have worried. They were pretty much faithful to the plot, the cinematography and CGI was excellent as were the cast who were close matches for their animated versions. This had all the spirit and charm of the original. Thoroughly enjoyable, recommended
