This very disturbing, psychological looks at bullying and adolescent angst. The pace and narrative looses it's way at times but it's well acted by the predominantly young cast and has some great cinematography to go with the soundtrack.

Definitely NOT a friday night; beer & pizza movie.

Given the last movie & TV serie I've watched I wanted something a bit less taxing and this looked like it would do (also I think it's about to get dropped off the R@Kuten TV streamer soon) This is an old Jason Statham movie. Paddy Considine also stars with Aidan Gillen.The script is awful; the dialogue is terrible........ it's rubbish, really bad. Why did Statham agree to do the film? Probably the numbers on the pay-check

DUST BUNNY (2025) .. no trailer due to actor ages

Reading the synopsis above you might be expecting a cutesie kids movie in the style of Monsters Inc. I was, but was so so wrong. I loved this crazy absurd surreal mad-cap movie. Mads Mikkelsen; Sophie Sloan and Sigourney Weaver star and it's a movie directorial debut from Bryan Fuller who also wrote it. The performances are great, especially from Sophie Sloan who plays 8 year old Aurora. The set design and cinematography reminded me a little of Wes Anderson, with wacko camera angles and livid colour palettes, there are echoes of Roald Dahl in there too. There are laugh-out-loud moments; action and tension.

A cult classic in the making? Quite possibly. Quirky; heartfelt; funny; surreal; a whimsical fantasy (with a monster under the bed!) Highly recommended

Saw the trailer. looked interesting but by around 35mins I'd had enough of her "clever" use of needle; thread; ropes and pulleys.

Eddie Murphy and Pete Davison star in the "comedy action-caper"..... I lasted 9 minutes before switching off taking a guess that it wasn't worth watching any more.

CHICKEN TOWN (2025)

Two friends join forces with a green-fingered granddad to fence a shed of weed that the old man has accidentally grown on his allotment. Imdb

A satire on rural life or a heart-warming quirky comedy? I don't think they had decided which and in the end this low budget movie doesn't really hit the buttons. There are some funny moments - mainly when Graham Fellows/John Shuttleworth is on screen. It looks like most of the rest of the cast are in their first film.

BUGONIA (2025)

Two conspiracy-obsessed young men kidnap the high-powered CEO of a major company, convinced that she is an alien intent on destroying planet Earth. Imdb

This is the latest from maverick director Yorgos Lanthimos (The Lobster & Killing Of A Sacred Deer) and like the recent Poor Things the always great Emma Stone takes the starring roll. along with Jesse Plemons. It is typical Lanthimos - a dark surreal satire. I found the pacing a bit slow at times and some of the soundtrack was harsh and irritating and I nearly switched off at around 20 mins but so glad I stuck with it.

If you like Yorgos Lanthimos movies I think you will like this one too

SMILE (2022)
After witnessing a bizarre, traumatic incident involving a patient, a psychiatrist becomes increasingly convinced she is being threatened by an uncanny entity.

It's like a combination of The Ring and It Follows (2014). Don't watch right before going to bed. After 15 minutes I was pretty sure I would have nightmares. Part 2 came out in 2024. Will check that out soon.

THE BOY WHO HARNESSED THE WIND (2019) ... no trailer due to actor age

Against all the odds, William a thirteen-year-old boy in Malawi invents an unconventional way to save his family and village from famine. Imdb

Written; directed and starring Chiwetel Ejiofor this is an at times heart warming & feelgood and at other times bittersweet and moving movie as it tells Williams story - based on true events, as floods then drought ravage their rural community. Beautifully filmed with an atmospheric soundtrack and a very good performance from young Maxwell Simba as William.

The dialogue is in English and Chichewa, the language of Malawi.

This Brazilian movie came up on one of those "don't miss these great films" videos. It has 4 Oscar nominations - Best Picture; Best Actor; Best International Picture & Best Casting so I decided to grab a copy and give it a watch.......

It's 2 hrs 40 mins long, I don't know if it got better after the 30/35mins mark 'cos that's when I gave up and switched off. Maybe I just wasn't in the right mood for it?

ZERO (2024) .... no trailer due to actor ages


Two Americans end up in Dakar, Senegal with bombs strapped to their chests and ten hours to find out why. Imdb

Even though the copy I had didn't have subtitles I still enjoyed it's bonkers plot. Most of the dialogue is in English but as it is set, and filmed in the Senegalese capital, Dakar some is in Wolof but most of that is easily guessable as phrases such as get him; fuck off' and run away he's got a bomb strapped to his chest it dosen't really need to be fully understood, which is just as well as my knowledge of wolof is very very limited. However some text messages were in German and that was a bit more tricky but I got the gist of them enough to follow the plot.

CAPTIVE STATE (2019)

After 10 years of extra-terrestrial occupation, residents of Chicago must decide whether to continue to live under alien rule or support the resistance. When young Gabriel Drummond joins the insurgency, he soon finds himself under careful scrutiny from a shadowy figure who's trying to crush the rebellion and its plans for freedom.

John Goodman; Ashton Sanders and Jonathon Majors star in this dystopian sci-fi thriller. It's not bad, but it ain't great. The pacing is hit and miss at times and although not giving too much away on screen is a good thing there is quite a lot here that is never really explained which does make following the plot a little tricky.

this movie started out kind of slow and you kind of wonder why you are watching this even about half way through as it keeps your interest half way through--the ending is pretty good but its noot just the movie itself thats kind of a 4 out of 5 in my book but the reasoning behind it---hopefully those that have watched it grasp what the main point is at the end of the movie is

Well, during the last days we've watched some movies from the past - but as I've said: oldies but goldies.
All are based on novels by John Grisham. And each of these movies are really high voltage: so there are:
THE PELICAN BRIEF (1993)

Two Supreme Court Justices have been killed. Now a college professor, who clerked for one of the two men and who is also having an affair with one of his students, is given a brief by her that states who probably wanted to see these two men dead. He then gives it to one of his friends, who works for the FBI. When the FBI director reads it, he is fascinated by it. One of the president's men who read it is afraid that if it ever got out, the president could be smeared. So he advises the president to tell the director to drop it, which he does. But later the professor and the girl were out and he was drunk and when he refused to give her the keys, she stepped out of the car. When he started it, it blew up. She then discovers that her place has been burglarized and what was taken were her computer and her disks. Obviously, her brief has someone agitated. She then turns to her boyfriend's friend at the FBI. He agrees to come meet her but before he does, someone shoots him and takes his place. At the meeting, he was about to kill her when someone shoots him. She then decides to turn to Gray Grantham, an investigative reporter, who was contacted by someone who says he has info on the killings but backed out at the last minute. He then meets her and tells her what her brief is, and basically, the man she suspects is a good friend of the president, and is trying to manipulate the outcome of a trial that is now before the Supreme Court. Grantham tells her that her brief can harm the president and although all they have are theories, he asks her to help him, but she wants to leave the country. Then Grantham's editor tells him that they have nothing, that he should drop cause the man she implicated is extremely powerful. Grantham is about to drop it when she says that she will help him. But can they stay alive? (IMdB)

A TIME TO KILL (1996)
When an innocent little African American girl named Tonya Hailey is raped and beaten by 2 beer-guzzling rednecks, the town of Canton, Mississippi is shocked. Her father, Carl Lee, is outraged, and figuring he could not see those boys be set free, decides to take justice into his own hands and kills them in front of numerous witnesses in the courthouse. Now it's up to Jake Brigance to get him off the hook. He has people that help him, but he is up against tough D.A. Rufus Buckley. Will he be able to prove that a black man can get a fair trial in Mississippi?

THE CLIENT (1994)
Mark Sway is an 11-year-old boy who lives with his mother and brother in a trailer. One day, he and his brother are hanging out when a car pulls over beside them. The driver then sticks a hose in his exhaust and puts the other end into the car. Mark pulls it out. But the man sees him and grabs him and takes inside the car. The man talks to Mark then later shoots himself. The shock sends Mark's brother into a catatonic state. .And one of his clients is a member of a mob family who is suspected of killing a Senator who was trying to take down his family. But because the Senator's body is missing, they can't prosecute him. Roy Foltrigg (Tommy Lee Jones) thinks the lawyer told Mark where the body is which is why he wants to speak to him. Mark goes to meet Roy and when he threatens him, Mark steps out then Reggie comes in with a recording of his conversation with Mark telling him that made several violations. In the meantime, the mobster is told by the head of the family to take care of Mark. So, he threatens Mark. Mark doesn't know what to do and learns that Reggie has some secrets of her own and is uncertain if he can trust her. (IMdB)

THE CHAMBER (1996)
Having survived the hatred and bigotry that was his Klansman grandfather's only legacy, young attorney Adam Hall seeks at the last minute to appeal the old man's death sentence for the murder of two small Jewish boys 30 years before. Only four weeks before Sam Cayhall is to be executed, Adam meets his grandfather for the first time in the Mississippi prison which has held him since the crime. The meeting is predictably tense when the educated, young Mr. "Hall" confronts his venom-spewing elder, Mr. "Cayhall," about the murders. The next day, headlines run proclaiming Adam the grandson who has come to the state to save his grandfather, the infamous Ku Klux Klan bomber. While the old man's life lies in the balance, Adam's motivation in fighting this battle becomes clear as the story unfolds. Not only does he fight for his grandfather, but perhaps for himself as well. RUNAWAY JURY (2003)
Reviewers say 'Runaway Jury' is a courtroom thriller featuring a strong cast including Gene Hackman, Dustin Hoffman, John Cusack, and Rachel Weisz. Themes of jury tampering, corporate influence, and ethical dilemmas are prominent. Hackman and Weisz receive praise for their performances. However, the film faces criticism for deviating from John Grisham's novel, particularly the change from a tobacco to a gun control lawsuit. Some find the plot convoluted and unrealistic, though it is generally considered entertaining despite its flaws. (IMdB)

THE FIRM (1993)
Mitch McDeere is a young man with a promising future in Law. About to sit his Bar exam, he is approached by 'The Firm' and made an offer he doesn't refuse. Seduced by the money and gifts showered on him, he is totally oblivious to the more sinister side of his company. Then, two Associates are murdered. The FBI contact him, asking him for information and suddenly his life is ruined. He has a choice - work with the FBI, or stay with the Firm. Either way he will lose his life as he knows it. Every of these films is a high voltage gem. And if you like and love courtroom thrillers here they are --- VERY RECOMMENDED.

LONE STAR (1996)

When the skeleton of his murdered predecessor is found, Sheriff Sam Deeds unearths many other long-buried secrets in his Texas border town. Imdb

Chris Cooper and Elizabeth Peña star with Matthew McConaughey and Kris Kristofferson giving fine support in this intriguing slow-burner of a movie. Frances McDormund has a cameo role too. An engrossing 2hr 15min

There are 2 movies going around at the moment titled KRAKEN, this one with the submarine in the arctic and with a fish-farm in a fjord AND it looks like this year there will be a 3rd one , with Jason Statham & Scarlett Johannson battling the many tentacled deep-sea monster,

This one is borderline between dumb-but-fun and rubbish.

WORLDBREAKER (2025)


Five years ago, a tear in the fabric of reality brought creatures to our world from an alternate dimension bent on our destruction. A father hides his daughter on an island to keep her safe, while he prepares her for survival and the battles to come. However, when the world is about to break, no place is safe. Imdb

This should have been called in a Quiet Boneyard Place 28 Days Later. Milla Jovovich and Luke Evans star. At least it's only 95mins... but I still didn't get to the end.

The Witch (2015)
An isolated Puritan family in 1630s New England comes unraveled by the forces of witchcraft and possession.

Finally watched this 'horror' movie. It's a slow burn. Not what I expected. Great acting. There were a few shocking moments near the end, but I wouldn't recommend it to horror movie fans.
