Just watched Priest with Paul Bettany,was OK, but it did have Paul Bettany:)

Just saw the Captain America movie that was made not too long ago. Also saw the funniest looking transvestite while in the theater.

Republican = EVIL

Democrat = Lesser EVIL

Take your pick!

Sure, why not? Don't vote for Perry unless you want to see Public Education go down the drain... just look at what happened in Texas this year

People talk about Obama as if he had been elected king and all he had to do was decree that his policies would be turned into the law of the land. Every single thing that he has tried to do has been beaten to within an inch of its life by the Republicans in Congress. (Which, of course is their prerogative. The country voted them in.)

Forgive me if this is too "inside politics", but regardless of one's party affiliation, I see the following things happening:

Fact A: The US is divided about how to govern the country. The voters may shift from one party to the other, but only marginally. There is a very real difference of opinion.

Fact B: The parties themselves have members that are all over the map. There are both liberal and conservative Democrats. There are moderate Republicans and Tea Party supporters.

Fact C: No party can act unilaterally. Neither party can push their agenda through without losing members of their own party and picking up some votes from the other.

Fact D: Each party can, however, block the other's agenda. Saying "No" is easy. Finding something that the right number of people will say "yes" to is extremely hard.

Fact E: Compromise, once the tool of statesmen, has become a dirty word. If the only way to get a piece of legislation through is to make it more appealing to the opposing side, Congressional leaders will usually prefer to let it go down in flames and blame the other side for it's demise. This is bad when we are talking about health care or tax policy. But it's absolutely disastrous when doing nothing means that the government shuts down or the country can't pay its bills.

The miracle, to me, is that anything manages to get done at all. The fact that Obama has gotten health care passed (many previous presidents have tried, none suceeded), repeal of DADT, stabilized a financial meltdown, kept to a steady schedule of withdrawl in Iraq and Afghanistan, and kept the government open and running is pretty freakin' amazing.

Just my opinion.

Watching US politics from outside this is the bit that stuns and horrifies the rest of the world. Compromise is how you run a country, once you turn that into a taboo you are doomed to either nothing ever happening, or everything that happens being un-done when the next lot get in. So stagnation or violent lurches in policy. Most good policy takes years to have an effect, so lurching from course to course turns out to be almost the same as stagnation.

It's amazing how a small minority of Tea Partiers have managed to turn compromise into the taboo that it's become now. I think the silent sane and reasonable majority the in US, on both sites of the isle, need to take their country back from the extremists!

Obama really isn't a bad president. Most of the problems we have now either existed or were in the making well before he entered office and the worst of our problems even go back decades. He's unable to fix so many years of errors of such magnitude so quick. He's diplomatic, charismatic, and seems to really value the well-being of America. His major problem seems to be a lack of crucial experience and know-how. However, he's doing better now than in years past. We voted him into office for many wrong reasons. However, I also believe we have thrown him under the bus before blaming him for the bus being dirty.

If Herman Cain wins the republican primary, he will definitely receive my vote as I believe he is more experienced and skilled in relevant areas. Others such as Romney and Perry would at least get my consideration. However, if one of the others gets on the ballot, Obama will most likely get my vote. However, whatever the case, as a man the majority of this country saw fit to lead us through the best or worst, I will have full faith in Obama as long as he is president.

Given the likely candidates in the Republican space I don't think there is an alternative. They are all pandering to the LCD - lowest common denominator
