Antarctica - It's midnight, but with all this light it is difficult to stop exploring the towers of ice. This is one of the highest of Erebus, but the flow of heat and moisture from the subsoil has brought down the wall.

Panama - The stone monoliths near the cemetery of El Caño is almost 2 meters tall. Perhaps the prisoners of war there were bound before being sacrificed and buried with the kings during funeral ceremonies which included several days of feasting and dancing.



 
In the town where I was born there was a factory that build giant ship diesel engines, Stork. From the mid twenties until about 1965 they built 200 of such engines. The name of the engine was HOTLO. Last year they discovered in Brazil such an engine. It was built in 1962 and worked in a drilling ship until 2012, 24 hours a day. They planned to move it back to its birth place, Hengelo, in The Netherlands. A fine example of old craftsmanship.
