Type 57 G : The tank of the victory

It winned two times the famous race "24 Heures du Mans" in 1937 and 1939.

It is in board of a model like this one that Jean Bugatti had his mortal accident in August 1939, only some days before the war.

Bugatti after Bugatti

After the death of Ettore Bugatti in 1947, the second son Roland becomes the manager of the company. Unfortunately he is not a technician neither a designer like his elder brother Jean was it. It will be not a success. After some years of various activities as autorails manufactoring and mechanical sub-contracting works, Bugatti presents at last a new model.

Type 101 bodyworked by Gangloff

Under the new "ponton" body Gangloff, frame and engine are directly derived from the type 57 appeared nearly twenty years ago.

Heavy, expensive and technically obsolete with its rigid front axle, only few type 101 were sold. We see it for the last time at Paris motorshow 1952.

Amazing Type 101 drawed by Virgil Exner and made by Ghia in 1964.

Type 251 (1955-56)
Bugatti for the last time on the track or 4 men 4 one failure.

Roland Bugatti wanted absolutely to continue the work of his father Ettore. He persuaded the Bugatti president, Pierre Marco, to realise a new race car and he asked to Gioacchino Columbo, the famous engineer, to design the vehicle. For the trials, the faithful Bugatti pilot Maurice Trintignant, the uncle of the French actor Jean-Louis, was designated.

New for the time : the transversal central engine drawed by Columbo, author of the famous V12 Ferrari. Here it is a eight aligned cylinder, twin over head camshafts.

Maurice Trintignant on board of his coach Ventoux offered by his friend Roland Bugatti.
It was the car of the staff Bugatti who used it as shuttle Molsheim-Paris-Molsheim. (2 million kilometers!)
