4 CV story : The flea of Billancourt is born in the clandestinity.

The first prototype is created secretly during the Occupation late 1942 against the opinion of the boss Louis Renault at the beginning.
All the searches are strictly forbidden by the Germans. The car is inspired by the KDF of Ferdinand Porsche (himself inspired by the Czech Tatra) that will become the Volkswagen Beetle.

Prototype 2 made late 1943, barely never served because of the war.

Prototype 3 created in 1944/45, after the Occupation.

Pierre Lefaucheux, the first president of the Regie Renault (Renault is nationalized by the General de Gaulle early 1945) is going to present the 4 CV to the dealerships. One pre-serie car is hidden behind the curtain.

Accused of collaboration with the Germans, Louis Renault dies in prison in October 1944 in obscure circonstances.
At the opposite of the legendary constructor, Pierre Lefaucheux believes immediatly to the success of the small 4 CV.
"We will make the 4 CV and nothing other" he said. Stranger to the automobile world, the old resistant has a new look about it.

First Renault with the motor at the back, the 4 CV is powered by a brand new four-cylinder 760 cm3 with over head valves.

Summer 1946 : On vacation with a pre-serie model, the engineer Fernand Picard joins the useful to the pleasant.

After 3 bombardments, the factory of Seguin island at Boulogne-Billancourt near Paris is born again.
150 "4 CV" by day in 1948.
