Panther replicars

This Panther De Ville was the car of the French singer Johnny Hallyday.

Panther De Ville (1975 - 1980) is inspired by the Bugatti Royale Type 41.
Here the coupé de ville rebodyworked by Binder in 1939 to replace the roadster Esders.

The Panther De Ville is powered by a Jaguar XJ 12 mechanical.

4 CV story : The flea of Billancourt is born in the clandestinity.

The first prototype is created secretly during the Occupation late 1942 against the opinion of the boss Louis Renault at the beginning.
All the searches are strictly forbidden by the Germans. The car is inspired by the KDF of Ferdinand Porsche (himself inspired by the Czech Tatra) that will become the Volkswagen Beetle.

Prototype 2 made late 1943, barely never served because of the war.

Prototype 3 created in 1944/45, after the Occupation.

Pierre Lefaucheux, the first president of the Regie Renault (Renault is nationalized by the General de Gaulle early 1945) is going to present the 4 CV to the dealerships. One pre-serie car is hidden behind the curtain.

From the magazine "Le Monde Illustré" October 1946.
Right above : Fernand Picard, the "father" of the 4 CV and all the Renault with rear engine.
Right below : Pierre Lefaucheux, President of the RNUR (Régie Nationale des Usines Renault)

Accused of collaboration with the Germans, Louis Renault dies in prison in October 1944 in obscure circonstances.
At the opposite of the legendary constructor, Pierre Lefaucheux believes immediatly to the success of the small 4 CV.
"We will make the 4 CV and nothing other" he said. Stranger to the automobile world, the old resistant has a new look about it.

First Renault with the motor at the back, the 4 CV is powered by a brand new four-cylinder 760 cm3 with over head valves.

Summer 1946 : On vacation with a pre-serie model, the engineer Fernand Picard joins the useful to the pleasant.

After 3 bombardments, the factory of Seguin island at Boulogne-Billancourt near Paris is born again.

Presented at the first Paris motorshow of after-war in 1946, the 4 CV is not yet ready for the serie.

Only the old Juvaquatre can be ordered at the Renault stand.

At last ready, the 4 CV is showing its mechanical in 1947.

"The chain has started" affirm the ads.

The Juvaquatre delivery time is shorter but it is the last year fabrication for the four-door saloon. Break and van two-door is going on until ...1960 !

Model 1954

Animated model for motorshows

New front face with three barrettes instead of six.

The austere 4 CV Affaires has only one barrette on its front face.
The 4 CV Sport below seems more luxurious.

Februar 1955 : The accident of Pierre Lefaucheux

Travelling toward Strasbourg, the Frégate driven by the Renault president slide on a black ice plate and it is the roll-over.
Always in a hurry, Pierre Lefaucheux had put down his suitcase on the back seat. He was outright killed by his luggage!

Great funeral at Seguin island there where is the 4 CV production chain.

Pierre Lefaucheux "Compagnon de la Libération" was named Gildas during the Resistance (1943-44).
As resistant, he knew a risky life and, at the end, he dies stuned by his own suitcase.

Flins factory, where will be assembled the future Dauphine and other, bear his name.
Pierre Dreyfus succeed Pierre Lefaucheux.

From the Affaires to the Sport
From B&W to the color

Last production year for the Grand-Luxe decouvrable, a pleasant rare model.

Getting the Dauphine motor, the Juvaquatre become Dauphinoise. Van or break, it was the Kangoo of the fifties!

Model 1958

4 CV Affaires

New indicators, new back lights and the wheels that the Dauphine received some months ago.

Model 1959

On the 4 CV Affaires the wheel trims are in option! However this version is from far the best sold for the appearance of the Dauphine.
It is the cheapest car on the French market. (85% Affaires - 15% Sport)

Don't be mistaken, the top under the rear window, it is for the radiator water...
For the gas, let's see in the engine compartment.

The 4 CV Sport price is close to the Dauphine one.

Salmson, the other constructor from Billancourt (1921 - 1957)

Salmson was known also for its plane motors in star form. The automobile manufacture began with some cyclecars in the twenties.
After the war, the small constructor make again the models S4-61 (10 CV) and S4-E (13 CV) almost without modification, except semi-integrated headlights and new front fenders in 1949.

At Paris motorshow 1950, Salmson present the new Randonnée.

From 1921 all the Salmson are powered by a surprising double OHC four-cylinder, a special feature among some obsolete datas (right driving, wood structure body, Cotal gearbox, mechanical brakes control for the model S4-61...).

Coupé 2300 S : The last Salmson.

Salmson present the 2300 S at Paris motorshow 1953.

Left, the old engine of cast iron (S4-61 ; S4-E)
Right, the new one G 72 full light alloy launched in 1950 (last S4-E ; Randonnée ; 2300S)
The fifth hole machined on the right of the block is not made for a fifth piston. It is the passage of the shaft that control both overhead camshafts (see the photos above).

One robust and modern mechanical for the Salmson 2300 S.
