Hey Guys,

Well here in the UK we have been asked to stay in Self Isolation.

If we can work from home then do that. But unfortunately my job I dont have the ability to work from home.

We support users laptop hardware, so we have been told by the company we need to be there at the office, while everyone else "works" from home. Just not fair.
They dont care about as we are an external contractor company. They are all safe at home!. And they come into us if they have a hardware issue, potentially putting us at risk! I hate it.

So anyway. People who are working from home or Self Isolating. How are you manageing to keep your self occupied? Cant just watch TV all day? And also cant watch porn all the time. Ya dick will fall off!

So what are you doing to fill the day?

Well I try and practise social distancing as much as I can but it's tricky in supermarkets etc when other shoppers walk right up to you to take items of the shelves. Happily I can either walk or drive into my town centre for shopping so don't have to risk getting on a bus.

There's some strange logic going on though. A womens clothes shop in town has closed " in light of the situation and to protect our staff and customers" …. but next door a nail-bar is still operating, with customers sat close up & facing the beauty technician for maybe 40 mins while they have their nails done!

I did the sensible thing a couple of weeks ago and made sure my small freezer is full and also got a few tins (and I do mean just a few) of soup and baked beans so that if I wake up one morning with the fever and dry cough I can lock myself away for 7 to 10 days and might only have to organise someone to get me some bread & milk. Happily I have a garden so I can always do a bit of weeding/lawn mowing and once we get to a (hopefully) warm UK summer I can sit out and work on my tan. Seeing those pictures of the Italians in blocks of flats all singing on their balconies or at their windows made me very glad to have the garden.... being inside a small flat with no outside space for days, or weeks, must be very difficult.

As to other ways to pass the time - well there is the CD collection and good old BBC Radio4, and it would give me the opportunity to re-watch all 8 series of the excellent West Wing. Also I have a few paperbacks that I was saving to take on holiday, but I guess that won't be happening. And I could always re-read the whole of Game of Thrones - at 4000+ pages that should fill an afternoon or 2 (or 22)

From the many people I saw yesterday in town carrying tins of paint it looks like decorating is back in fashion!

Sorry to hear about your situation YOYO; unfortunately that is not uncommon. I work in a place that has a manufacturing side of the organization and they still have to come into the office (I am on the admin side). People often debate the 'fairness' of that and I dont know if there is an actual answer that will be viewed 'fair' by both sides. When we have a snow day, I am required to work while others can have a day of paid leave; that may seem unfair yet the upside is I dont have to commute to work on my telework days (saves me 2 hours each telework day). Age old discussion....

Anyway, I am keeping myself busy by viewing movies, YouTube and games. I've been following up on a book I read years ago on negotiation, vid below.

Hey yoyo888, I know how you're feeling...

Same here. Slovenia introduced quarantine on Friday 13 March to slow down the spread of the coronavirus infection...

Only 10 days in and I already hate all about this...but we don't really have much of a choice, do we?

Some tips on keeping sane indoors yourself :

- connect with friends / family
- stay active
- watch or read something uplifting
- learn something new
- take a break from the news!!!

Please stay safe and healthy guys! ;)

One upside is that much production of routine crap TV (soaps/celebrity/reality shite etc) has been halted due to Covid19 so the TV channels will have to show something else and as they realise we are all stuck in at home they might decide it's their job to help with the isolation-frustration and cheer us all up by showing some quality programmes .... maybe, just maybe, we will have "Monday night is classic Movies night" or "Tuesday night for Terrific comedy" "Weepies on Wednesday" "Fright-night Friday" " Scandi-noir Sunday" or other themes …… ok maybe not - they will probably just repeat "z-list celebrity dancing on ice" etc

Hi! I hope you're all keeping well and cheerful. At least we've had a couple of days of sunshine to relieve the gloom. If this had happened in winter I don't think I would feel nearly so positive about things.

I'm lucky enough to live in a small village. All my neighbours are friendly and supportive. It's also easy to go walking for a couple of hours without being close to anyone. The down side is that it's a 20 mile round trip to the supermarket.

Well and here now my first Corona-report. My husband is no too in home-office. And that is for both of us a totally new situation. Thank God we have for both of us separate rooms in our house so that we do not will hang around together the whole day.
What we have done today? Well he was working in his room and I have done the laundry (a very interesting but not very communicative work!). -:)

But since yesterday now we are all here "prisoners" in our homes. It is forbidden to meet more than 1 person outside of your home. You have to be inside your home but you can leave alone only for a short way to a Supermarke3t or to a doctor or to a pharmacy. All other shops are totally closed by now. No restaurant, barber shop, cinema, theatre is open anymore. Just now we are living in a Ghost-City. Perhaps in the next days will come the first zombies around the corner. It is like the apocalypse. Never ever in my most idiotic thoughts I would have suggested such a scenario.

And when will this end? I don't believe thsat it will come to an end in one or two months. No I think this will last for the next or the next two years. When this pandemic perhaps will subside in the coming hot summer it will come back very sure in autumn. And a vaccine will be ready for use at the earliest perhaps in late summer 2021!

And what will happen until than? So many people will be jobless. So many will not be able to pay their rent or their instalment loans or they will loose their houses because they cannot pay anymore their variable mortgage rates.
How many Restaurants, little or bigger firms will be bankrupt? How long it will be until the economy will recover again?

And what makes for me more fear than the virus itself is: how long the people will be quiet? Our Supermarkets are empty. The baker here near us has no bread or rolls. The provision with basic supplies turns down. How long until the first depredations will start? How long the people will endure to be nearly imprisoned?

Well perhaps I'm too pessimistic! But am I?

Families have their daily pace of life. Children are going to shool, Mom, Dad perhaps both are going to their jobs. In the evening the whole family is meeting again and they have their time together. Now Schools are closed, kindergardens - closed, Mom and Dad in home-office. When there will be the first quarrels because of the narrowness of homes or flats? They are thrown away from their pace of life. Children cannot go out and play with their friends. All places where they could go and play are closed by now. And for the grown-ups --- only TV???? It is the knowing to be imprisoned which makes you insane.

Well we have our house, we have the garden - so we can get there a breath of fresh air.
So we can feel benefited to those who live in in a flat in the centre of the city.

OK enough - my opinion to Corona or Covid-19.

So I expect to go to work for the foreseeable future. My work group services medical equipment, including ventilators. The only outsiders we see are the
fedx and ups delivery people. Nobody else.

I tell my friends how "essential" I am. They roll their eyes.

Traffic is very light...I get to see my work buds...and it keeps my on a routine.
I like all that a lot.
It also gets me paid. I'm an hourly worker. No work, no pay.

Besides work, everything is shut down. I go home, and stay home. Pretty boring, but I can live with it.

I work in a grocery store so I too have been gifted the label of being essential. I have been in this line of work for quite some time and I must say that there were times when I was treated as though I was considerably less than "essential" by both the company and the customers - most of the time we are treated well enough though - so this is a little weird. The store gets pretty wiped out and we are limited to what we can get from our warehouse because the whole supply chain seems pretty bogged down due to such high demand. Not sure what will happen next but if people are out of work for long the whole situation will go from bad to much much worse so I hope there is some good news sooner than later.

Well we all knew it was coming but our prime minister has announced strict new curbs on life in the UK to tackle the spread of coronavirus so we are joining many other countries who have already applied similar restrictions, although ours are not as draconian as some, e.g in Italy and Spain even outdoor exercise is banned

From this evening people must stay at home except for shopping for basic necessities, daily exercise, any medical need and travelling to and from essential work. Shops selling non-essential goods will also be shut and gatherings in public of more than two people who do not live together prohibited. Other premises including libraries, playgrounds and outdoor gyms, and places of worship must also close immediately. Parks will remain open for exercise but gatherings will be dispersed. All social events, including weddings, baptisms and other ceremonies are banned - but funerals will be allowed. The restrictions will be reviewed in three weeks, and relaxed if the situation and infection levels permit.

So it looks like I can go for a walk once a day (on my own) for exercise and to get food and or medical supplies as when required but to limit this to as fewer trips as possible.... looks like my hunch to get a haircut today was a good one.

Damm hair cut! Jeeez if they are shut for months, we are all going to be turning into hippies :)

My car was in for its second service today, and today was their last day open as it went.

And the more annoying part of it. It needs new brake pads as they did not have mine in stock. Only a couple of months left on them. So I need to be careful, and also need two new front tyres soon as well. So need to drive carefully for the next few months. Will tyre palces be open? Are they devices as essential businesses?

Well im still not sure if I need to go to work tomorrow after todays announcement.

"Travelling to and from work only if absolutely essential and you can not work from home". Im sure the company that we are outsourced to will demand that it is essential as we support their laptop hardware for all their people that are working from home.

Messaged my boss this evening asn I guess he wont have much sleep tonight. Meetings probably going on all night. I will know in the morning.

So it is a watch this space! :(

On most cars the front tyres wear much faster than the rears. If it becomes difficult to buy new ones there is something you can do. Swop the front wheels for the rears, using the spare as an intermediary. It's not a hard job and that will keep you going for a lot of months. And of course changing down gear earlier than usual will help to eke out the life of the brakes.

My theory is that this is all a plot by our pets to get us to spend more time with them. My dog is loving the extra walks and snoozing under my desk while I work.

Slovenia also imposes draconian rules to stop spread of coronavirus:

- the country has closed all schools and kindergartens, all public transport, hotels, bars, restaurants, sports centers and most shops, apart from those selling food
- passenger air traffic has been canceled
- people are able to go to work, pharmacies or food shops but all socializing in public spaces is prohibited
- several companies, among them Slovenia's largest exporter Revoz, a unit of France's Renault, are closed...

BUT recent public opinion survey shows that 67% of Slovenians think that's not enough. I never knew Slovenians could be so S/M nation. :p

I think the NHS are sending a similar message out to anyone registered for "doctor appointment reminder" texts.... unless I was the only one who got one :);)

Finally the company has given us access via VPN!

There is very little I can do as we mainly look after hardware tickets when people break their laptops. But there is the odd software related ones, and this mornings BitLocker Recovery I helped someone with.

Wish me luck as I have a feeling it is going to be the start of a very long boring day and potentially weeks ahead.

Its a nice sunny day outside again today :). So I think I will give the grass its first cut of the year while "worknig from home" LOL
