Last week it was announced that Anneke Grönloh will stop singing, probably few of you have heard of her but she was a HUGE international star. She was born in Tondano (former Dutch Indies, today Indonesia) in JUNE 1942, exact date of birth is unknown because her mother delivered birth to her hiding from the Japanese Army in the jungle. (it was during WW2).
After repatriation of the family to the Netherlands she lived in Eindhoven (the city of the Philips Company) and she made her first record in 1960.
During her carreer which lasted from 1960 till today she had numerous golden and platinum songs in the Netherlands as well as in Malaysia, Singapore and of course Indonesia.
In 1964 she sung the entry of the Netherlands in the Eurovision songcontest with the song "Jij bent mijn leven" ("you are my life"), her biggest international songs would be "Boeroeng kaka" and "Nino Bobo" which were HUGE successes in South East Asia.
I visited my mother today, we listened to some of her records and now at home I "you tubed" them for you
