THE GREAT RAID a film from 2005. It is a really very good made war action about the liberation of nearly 300 American solders which have been as prisoners of war of the Japanese on the Phillippines in January 1946.

An old film from 1949 SANDS OF IWO JIMA!
I know, I know "1949" long, long ago. There is the Clint Eastwood film from 2006 FLAGS OF OUR FATHERS. Perhaps it is the better one because in colour and widescreen and with all the technical possibilities from today to make a blockbuster.
So why this old b/w one? Well at first: my "Hero" John Wayne was the leading man and then I felt here was more personality. The war was over only some years ago and many of the men perhaps have witnessed the war for themselves because there was not only acting but as well sentiment. - We liked it.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. I cannot recommend this movie more highly. It was as fun as the first one and gave all the main characters fitting endings. There is an opening segment when Jack makes his entrance, that is just astonishing (the bank chase scene).

I got around to watching this - I was sort of dreading it as I wasn't that impressed with parts 1 and 2. In my opinion these suffered from being too long with several sections that could and should have been cut from the movies. This one wasn't as bad in that respect but still could have been cut by 10/15 mins.

The story of Richard and Mildred Loving, a couple whose arrest for interracial marriage in 1960s Virginia began a legal battle that would end with the Supreme Court's historic 1967 decision. (from IMdB)
