Olympus Has Fallen
It was a good action movie, and I'm a Gerard Butler fan too. The only thing that I didn't like about it is that they totally failed on something that would have taken just a few minutes of scene to fix.
SPOILER:
After the president gets kidnapped in the bunker and the Situation Room realized that the hostage takers are looking for the presidents son, this should have immediately triggered Amendment 25 of the Constitution making the vice president the acting president. However, since the VP was also taken hostage, acting president would then have fallen to the Speaker of the House. At this point the Speaker should have been sworn in as President, but this didn't happen. Throughout the movie the characters kept referring to Trumbull as "Mr. Speaker" when they should have been referring to him as Mr. President.
I have a question, and since I'm a constitution buff can't believe I don't know the answer to this one: Let's say that Trumbull DID in fact assume the presidency. When the president was rescued, got healed, and was able to take the presidency back, is the Speaker able to go back to being Speaker? Or did he have to resign the Speakership to assume the presidency?
This will be an interesting question to try to investigate.
