Although this film is highly recommended, it is difficult to watch and is certainly not suitable for a holiday viewing. This film is after a true story which happened in the late 90s in Belgium. (The Dutroux case!). This film illustrates the complete breakdown of public authorities. The impact of this film will persist.

I wasn't planning to watch this again this evening but having got a new d/load I just wanted to check if to make sure it played okay so I watched the beginning... then a bit more.. and a bit more and then thought why not watch the lot.

I do love this movie it has a good plot and as a piece of cinema it is astonishing, tremendous cinematography with a fantastic use of a dense vibrant colour palette. Simply stunning

This is an Australian prison drama starring Guy Pearce**. I had to give up at around 35mins, not just because it was so bleak but because the quality of the dialogue recording was poor and so much was muffled that I couldn't follow what was being said and unfortunately I didn't have any subtitles.

** I think all australian movies HAVE to star Guy Pearce by law.

FATHER STU (2022 - USA)

Follows the life of Father Stuart Long, a boxer-turned-priest who inspired countless people during his journey from self-destruction to redemption. (IMdB)

Though I do not believe in the church's structure, I do believe in God. So I was a little bit suspicious to watch this film. But I like Mark Wahlberg - and so I watched it. ---- And let me tell you: I was not disappointed. The film told the true life story of Father Stuart Long, who died in the age of 50 in 2014 - and this story was very touching. No - now through this film, I'm not suddenly a church lover. But I'm admiring how this man so radical changed his life. I would recommend it for you.

F1 THE MOVIE (2025)

A Formula One driver comes out of retirement to mentor and team up with a younger driver. Imdb

I'm not into the F1 world but I did enjoy this movie based around it. Brad Pitt; Javier Bardem; Kerry Condon & Damson Idris star. I don't know how much is archive race footage or CGI/AI or "real" racing that they staged and filmed but the cinematography of the racing is very good and the plot works well.

I wasn't going to bother with this re-boot of the superman story but then I spotted it was directed and co-written by James Gunn who had made the Guardians Of The Galaxy movies and that Nicholas Hoult was playing Lex Luther. I wish I had stuck with my original thought as 5 mins in I wondered if this was a sequel to a movie I hadn't seen. The "plot" is a mess and I gave up at around 35mins. Rubbish

EDEN (2025)

Based on a factual account of a group of outsiders who settle on a remote island only to discover their greatest threat isn't the brutal climate or deadly wildlife, but each other. Imdb

This movie is not necessarily for everyone but I was engrossed by this psychological dark thriller - what's that saying "Hell is other people" Think Castaway meets Big Brother meets Lord Of The Flies. Jude Law is exceptional as is the rest of the cast, Ana de Armas, Vanessa Kirby, Daniel Brühl, and Sydney Sweeney.

JURASSIC WORLD: REBIRTH (2025)


Five years post-Jurassic World: Dominion an expedition braves isolated equatorial regions to extract DNA from three massive prehistoric creatures for a ground breaking medical breakthrough. Imdb

You know how some movie franchises reach the stage where they should really say "Enough is enough"? Well the Jurassic one reached that a couple of movies back but they still keep churning them out. They at least gave up on Chris Pratt the dinosaur whisperer on a motorbike. Scarlett Johannson stars in a very thin plot. Spoiler alert: The corporate sc.umbag (there is always one isn't there) DOES get eaten towards the end - which you knew was going to happen as soon as he appeared on screen.

An unchronological look at the life of the Little Sparrow, Édith Piaf (1915-1963). Her mother is an alcoholic street singer, her father a circus performer, her paternal grandmother a madam. During childhood, she lives with each of them. At 20, she's a street singer discovered by a club owner who's soon murdered, coached by a musician who brings her to concert halls, and then quickly famous. Constant companions are alcohol and heartache. The tragedies of her love affair with Marcel Cerdan and the death of her only child belie the words of one of her signature songs, "Non, je ne regrette rien." The Story of Edith Piaf - I think Marion Cotillard in one of her best roles ever. She didn't play Edith Piaf - she WAS Edith Piaf!
Both of us, we are giant fans of her chansons. What we didn't know was her tragic life, which ended after the only short period of 42 years. For me, one of the very best biopics ever!

Noomi Rapace stars as all 7 siblings in this dystopian sci-fi thriller with Glenn Close and William Defoe also starring. An interesting set-up which takes a left-turn at around 30mins in. I enjoyed it,

CIVIL WAR (2025)

In a dystopian future, four journalists travel across the United States during a nation-wide conflict. While trying to survive, they aim to reach the White House to interview the president before he is overthrown. Imdb

I didn't know much about this before watching. I nearly switched off at around 40mins, this is a road-movie, and not a particularly interesting one. The main characters travel in a pickup truck talking a lot and taking photos of things they come across, and quite a few of each other. Some of it was nicely filmed, but mostly the plot was shallow and pointless. I did watch until the end (but wished I hadn't) One scene near the end had me shouting at the TV... "Oh really? That's bollocks"

So a western starring Samuel L Jackson & Pierce Brosnan ... should be good then? Not exactly, it's ok but no better than that.

A new Wes Anderson movie - totally bonkers plot, the usual wonderful use of pastel colours and symmetrical mirror-image framing. After the disappointing French Dispatch came the better Asteroid City and now this a better film I thought it very funny in places - but bonkers. Where else could you see Benito Del Toro; Tom Hanks; Brian Cranson & Riz Ahmed playing hoops in a nearly completed railway tunnel? Scarlet Johansson; William Defoe; Michael Cera; F. Murray Abraham; Bill Murray; Richard Ayoade; Jeffrey Wright and Benedict Cumberbatch also appear.
