You know how a few sequels are good but many are pretty awful? This was in the latter group - it looks great but the plot is thin; too sentimental (too Disney) and I found the songs irritating.

THE NAKED GUN (2025)

Only one man has the particular set of skills - to lead Police Squad and save the world. Imdb

I was apprehensive about watching this, being a fan of the Police Squad/Airplane/Naked Gun movies with the superb comedic timing of the late Leslie Nielsen fan but decided to give it a go. It's not bad, but it is nowhere near as funny as it should be. Some of the gags are funny and I did laugh but there were jokes that should have been funny but fell flat. I think the problem with it is it's not written or directed by the Zucker; Abrahams; Zucker team that did most of the others, and it shows.

Phil lives with his mother and twin sister in an old mansion on the outskirts of town. When he starts to feel attracted to a new boy at school, Phil is plunged into emotional turmoil only exacerbated by the trouble at home. Imdb

A German (kind of) coming of age movie. I say kind of but Phil and his family & friends already knows he's gay so it's more of a first-love movie. It is beautifully filmed with a good cast and the story is told with many flashbacks to his chaotic childhood living with his free-spirited mother, I enjoyed it

Ari Aster wrote & directs, Joaquin Phoenix & Emma Stone star. It has a running time of 2.5hrs. I thought I did very well to get through 40mins of boredom before switching off.

A simply brilliant crime comedy with Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley and Celia Imrie. About 2 hours of pure pleasure when the four nursing home residents get together and solve a cold case murder case under the leadership of Elizabeth (Helen Mirren). I heartily recommend it!

Denzel Washington in an ambivalent role. A story about friendship and family. How far do you go to protect your own family and maintain a friendship? Recommendation!

UNDER FIRE (2025 USA)

At a Mexican border drug deal, dealers Griff and Abbott meet for an exchange. Both unexpectedly flash badges - Griff's FBI, Abbott's DEA - revealing they're unknowingly working the same case. (IMdB)

An action comedy of the best kind. Very well done, exciting and with a lot of wordplay. The 92 minutes of film length had flown by. Just the right film for an entertaining evening. The two main actors, Mason Gooding and Dylan Sprouse are great.
On IMdB you can also find the usual grumblers who pick every movie into its individual parts. This movie is nothing more than just a movie, not real life. It should be fun and interesting, and this movie is both.

So Ryan Reynolds stars in this too twee/sentimental comedy along with a host of "voices" from the likes of Brad Pitt; George Clooney and Matt Damon. I tried to like it but couldn't take any more at around 40 mins...the soundtrack is really annoying

BORN TO FLY (2023)

A special operations team headed by elite pilots are ordered to test new Chinese fighter jets. Test flight after test flight, they challenge the limits of the sky and themselves. Imdb

This Chinese movie popped up on my free feed at Rakut3nTv so I decided to give it a try. The flying sequences are not bad, it's when we are on the ground that the script and some of the acting let's it down.

So good they named it twice? I don't think so. I gave up at around 35mins, the multiple storylines all going on just made it a mess. The original movie had charm and charisma, this has neither, it was dull.

Maybe somebody thought "Let's take the underground creature elements from Tremors & Dune; the Kaiju from Pacific Rim; the cave dwelling anachrid stylings from Starship Troopers & the desolate landscape etc from Mad Max and put them together - it will be fun and watchable?..... it wasn't.

Taron Egerton and Ana Sophia Heger star in this compelling drama. Even thought it lost it's way a little towards the end I enjoyed this compelling drama. Excellent performances from the two leads, particularly the young Ana Heger playing his daughter

I gave this gore-fest another watch last night ......if anyone thinks that The Night Comes For Us or The Raid are the most violent & bloody movies out there - think again!

This war movie stars Tom Hanks who also wrote the screenplay (based on a C.S. Forrester novel). Could have maybe benefitted from being a little longer and having that time to develop the characters better.
