An oldie , but a classic. Spike Lee directs and what a cast list - Denzel Washington; Clive Owen: Jodie Foster; Chiwetel Ejiofor; Christopher Plummer; Willian Defoe. They are all excellent.... and so is the movie

Just we've watched it now and we've not been disappointed. You are right when you say this is an excellent movie. Very recommended. Thank you for the hint. Many of the "oldies" are much better than the "youngsters".

The Cabin In The Woods (2012)
Five friends stay at remote cabin.

The main reason I wanted to watch this is because Chris Hemsworth is in it.
I haven't seen many of his movies outside of Marvel. It has an interesting
concept. I think it's designed to make you wonder about every other horror
movie you've ever seen. Not many jump scares, but I still enjoyed it. Gets
bloodier and bloodier as it goes along. Two of the death scenes made me laugh.

I just wanted to also mention that Joss Whedon (Buffy The Vampire Slayer) is the producer and one of the writers of The Cabin In The Woods. There was a storyline in Buffy that was somewhat similar to this movie.

HUNTING SEASON (2025 - USA)

A girl and her father living deep in the woods, rescue a wounded young woman that washes up on the bank of the local river. Their lives are forever changed by the mysterious stranger, and the ruthless drug lord who will stop at nothing to kill her once and for all.

The story you surely have watched a thousand times before - but nonetheless it was thrilling until the end. And yes, I like movies of this genre. If you do it as well, don't miss this film.

Ralph Fiennes in one of his best roles. A beautiful and very moving film. A film you shouldn't miss. VERY RECOMMENDED!!!

HOW TO MAKE A KILLING (2026)

Disowned at birth by his obscenely wealthy family, a blue-collar will stop at nothing to reclaim his inheritance, no matter how many relatives stand in his way. Imdb

They should have called it How To Make a Terrible Hollywood Re-Make Of A Classic 1950 British Black & White Comedy.

About 35 seconds from the end (I fast forwarded to check if there was one), right at the end of the full credits here is a "inspired by Kind Hearts And Coronets". The original had a dark witty charm and whimsical comedy - this has none of that. I didn't find it very engaging with very low energy and they have got rid of the big plot twist ending too.

This has different actors playing the family victims whereas the original was notable as Alec Guinness played all 8 roles

Companion (2025)
A weekend getaway with friends at a remote cabin turns into chaos after it's revealed that one of the guests is not what they seem.

I guess this is a comedy, thriller. It's the 1st time I've see Jack Quaid (The Boys) in a movie.
I'll give it 6.5 out of 10.

MIKE & NICK & MIKE & ALICE (2026)

Two friends navigate the dangerous world of organized crime, testing their loyalty and survival skills as they get deeper into the criminal underworld. Imdb

This "dumb-but-fun" crime caper stars Vince Vaughn; James Marsden; Eliza Gonzales....and Vince Vaughn. The pacing is a bit slow for the first half but hits the accelerator later... a Friday night pizza & beer movie.

SEND HELP (2026)

When an employee and her insufferable boss become stranded on a deserted island, the only survivors of a plane crash, they must overcome past grievances and work together to make it out alive. Imdb

Dylan O'Brien and Rachel McAdams star in this wonderfully entertaining dark comedy, directed by Sam Raimi. A clever script and excellent acting make this a recommended movie.
A shame that they didn't go for the option of having Dylan's character wash up on the beach in only a pair of tight fitting Calvins, but sadly the trousers and shirt both survived the crash

Watched this yesterday, really enjoyed it, a few twists and turns. Was helped even more when the gorgeous Dylan O'Brien got his kit off

Just watched 'War Machine' on Netflix, it's not bad for what it is... A sci-fi/action movie. It's entertaining and had good effects, but doubt I would ever rewatch it again.

Michael Mason is a recluse on a remote Scottish island who rescues a girl from the sea, unleashing a perilous sequence of events that culminate in an attack on his home, compelling him to face his turbulent history. Imdb

This Jason Statham movie starts off slowly before ramping up to the punchy; slappy; stabby; shooty stuff that we have come to expect. Bodhi Rae Breathnach and Bill Nighy also star but it's not "classic Statham" and compared to his usual output it's a bit dull.

High college students face an unexpectedly epic journey when they must navigate two flights of stairs to retrieve their pizza delivery, turning a simple task into a surreal adventure. Imdb

I switched off at just after 6 mins (but nearly switched off at 3min 30secs )

The reviews seem to find it more fun than I did - a couple mentioned the beginning is bad. One said "If you can get past the first 20mins cringe it gets better" So I might give it another go.

The reviews seem to find it more fun than I did - a couple mentioned the beginning is bad. One said "If you can get past the first 20mins cringe it gets better" So I might give it another go.

So I gave it another go and yes 22 mins in it does get better with a very funny segment. The pacing then suffers a little but there are some funny moments and the cringe level is lower.

... I thought it was superb.

This is a brutal; gripping; intense portrayal in life inside a run down british prison. David Jonsson and Tom Blyth give really good performances in this claustrophobic experience.

Keanu Reeves & Cameron Diaz star in this, with a nice cameo performances from Martin Scorsese. It's written & directed by Jonah Hill who also stars as a very irritating character, so irritating that I nearly switched off early a couple of times. I did make it through to the end but maybe switching off early would have been the better idea.... or not even switching it on in the first place. Forgettable

Nice to see Ben Affleck & Matt Damon back on screen together but the movie is pretty much forgettable. Some good action sequences at times but an over-confusing plot

I happened upon it as it comes from the same director/writer who made the utterly bizarre mind-fuck that is INK which I really liked. Is this even weirder? Hard to say ... Alex and Sam are living there own separate lives and then find that their lives are a TV series in the other persons "reality".....
