Alfa Romeo Alfetta and Lancia Beta, 2 important Italian cars launched 50 years ago.
It will be the base of numerous future models of these makes.

Alfetta was the name given by the people before the war to the race cars Alfa 158 and 159 (1937-1951) because they were small compared with their competitors Mercedes and Auto-Union.
Same to Lancia that made already a model Lancia Beta in 1909! Sport and Tradition.

Front suspension with torsion bars
Rear axle De Dion with hanging differential, gearbox, disk brakes and clutch.
Race cars Alfa Romeo 158 and 159 had already this arrangement that allow a better distribution of the masses.

Front Wheels Drive and transversal engine for the Lancia Beta.

In 1988 Alfa Romeo integrated Fiat Group

Alfa 75 derived from Giulietta itself derived from Alfetta represent the tradition.
Alfa 164, Fiat Croma, Lancia Thema and Saab 9000 have a common plateform, some front wheels drive with common transversal engines.

Alfa 75 Turbo VS Alfa 164 Turbo, the eternal quarrel between the old and the modern.

Catalog 1993 : Alfa 33 is the only survivor of the old range. The only ? maybe not!

Monster or beauty ? Coupé SZ, roadster RZ are designed and made by Zagato.
The old spider Alfa appeared in 1966 and the roadster RZ, the two last models rear propulsion, are marketed until 1994. It is "collector" today!

From the old "supercar" to the new "supercinq" the same look but not the same platform (Renault 4 for the old, Renault 9 for the new).

Last development of Sierra engine for the Twingo in 1992 with monopoint injection.

Energy replace Sierra with 2 versions, 1.2 L and 1.4 L, on the new Clio in 1990. Plastic trims become to invade the engine compartment.

Renault Sierra engines at Daf then Volvo

1968 : Renault 8 motor (1108 cm3 - 47 HP) on the Daf 55 designed by Michelotti.
Special feature of all the Daf : its Variomatic, an automatic transmission at the rear with double V belts and variable diameter pulleys (like the "Mobylette"!). Rear axle De Dion with hanging differential.

Above : Daf 55 Marathon coupé (1289 cm3 - 57 HP)
Below : Daf 55 coupé

Daf 55 in Rally. By this way, Daf wanted to modify the "lady car" image of its model. This image was not fake because this people appreciated really the driving simplicity of the vehicle in towncenter.

New body for Daf 66 presented in October 1972.

Daf 66 Marathon 1974 with a motor derived from Renault 12 (1289 cm3- 57 HP). The following year, Volvo absorbed Daf Automobiles and this car became Volvo 66 DL (Marathon motor).

1976 : With the same technical, the Volvo 343 was also studied by Daf. This time the engine is a Renault 1397 cm3 - 70 HP, fitted on this model two years before the Renault 18 appearence.

Ariane is an idea of HT Pigozzi, the president-founder of Simca, to react to Suez Channel Crisis in 1956.
It is the wedding of a Vedette Trianon V8 body with a small Aronde 1300 engine.
For the model 1961, the Ariane, getting the new Rush Super motor fitted also on the Aronde Montlhéry, become more performing.

Daughter of Aronde-Ariane, Simca 1301 Special is stopped in 1976 and replaced by the up-to-date 1307 (background on the photo) that is not especially a cheap familial car.

Still today Simca Ariane remain the most spacious 1300 cm3 saloon.

In my opinion electric car is interesting only if it produce itself its own current, like this Symetric below presented at Geneva Motorshow, spring 1951, by Casimir Loubières.

More identical parts make the fabrication more easy and reduce the cost.

From 1898, the young engineer Ferdinand Porsche, not yet famous, worked on this kind of car for the Austrian company Lohner.

Prototype Citroen ECO 2000 presented at Paris Motorshow 1984

For this prototype, Citroen is faithful to the hydropneumatic suspension. (2 spheres in front, only one at the rear)

2 years after the theory, the practical with the new AX that will replace the 2 CV (or not...).

Light Aerodynamical Electric Vehicle 15 KW : VELA 15
Inspired by the Symetric and the ECO 2000, I drawed this small electric car, that use its own current supplied by a thermic motor-alternator. The main difference with the Symetric is the battery that allow to save the energy supplied by the electric motor that become a generator while the braking. I managed the motor of the car exactly like if it was a windshield-wiper motor. The battery is only a little bigger.

Simca Vedette V8, from the Versailles to the Chambord.

The Versailles at Versailles and the Chambord at Chambord, we are logical at Simca !

With the Ford Vedette, Simca inherit also the last unsold coaches Comete Monte-Carlo V8-22CV integrated to the range in 1955.
