United Kingdom: United Kingdom - My Last Breath

65763587765.jpg

For the Eurovision Song Contest 2020, UK public broadcaster BBC has selected multi-platinum selling, BRIT award-winning and Grammy-nominated songwriter James Newman. He will perform the song ‘My Last Breath’ at the Grand Final on 16 May.

James Newman (born 1975) is a multi-platinum selling, BRIT award-winning and Grammy-nominated songwriter, having won a BRIT for British Single of the Year for Waiting All Night performed by Rudimental and Ella Eyre. It was James’ first UK Number 1 single in 2013. It wasn’t long before he was able to co-write another UK Number 1, this time for Calvin Harris and his younger brother John Newman called Blame.

After writing hits for other artists, James is ready to take Europe by storm as a solo artist. He recorded his entry My Last Breath in Scotland while staying on a loch (a Scottish lake) with fellow songwriters, Ed Drewett, Iain James and Adam Argyle. James knew My Last Breath was ‘the one’ after recording it; he loved the simplicity of the song and felt like it gets you right away.

Estonia: Uku Suviste - What Love Is

536461559544427.jpg

The storm has passed and Estonia has a new Eurovision representative. After Eesti Laul’s exciting final, it's Uku Suviste who will fly to Rotterdam to represent Estonia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020. He will sing the song 'What Love Is' in May at Rotterdam Ahoy. The final of Eesti Laul took place at the Saku Suurhall, where the Eurovision Song Contest was hosted in 2002.

Uku Suviste (born June 6, 1982, Võru, Estonia) is an Estonian singer-songwriter, pianist and music producer. He has participated in countless music festivals across the country.

He is no stranger to the Estonian national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, either; Uku competed in the national selection in 2017 with the song Supernatural and finished second in Eesti Laul in 2019 with the song Pretty Little Liar.

Moldova: Natalia Gordienko - Prison

xNKFnarf1DX6464.jpg

Moldova will fly Natalia Gordienko to Rotterdam in May! The singer won 'O Melodie Pentru Europa' last night and was therefore invited to represent her country at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020. She will perform her song 'Prison' in the second Semi-Final on 14 May.

Natalia Gordienko (born 11 December 1987) is a Moldovan singer and dancer. She previously represented Moldova at Eurovision 2006, performing the fun track “Loca” with Arsenium and Connect-R. The trio finished in twentieth place in the grand final.

This time, however, she’ll be heading to Eurovision with a more sophisticated number, a song which documents a woman torn between conflicting emotions.

San Marino: Senhit - Freaky!

The contest for the Sammarinese entry has now closed. The digital battle took place on Senhit's website, and voting closed at midnight on 8 March. After tabulating votes, public broadcaster RTV announced that 'Freaky!' would be the song to see the Rotterdam Ahoy stage.

Senhit Zadik Zadik (born 1 October 1979), known professionally as simply Senhit (formerly written as Senit), is an Italian singer. She started her career abroad. She performed in musicals like Fame, The Lion King and Hair in Switzerland and Germany.

The success of Senhit's recent electro-pop single Dark Room was one of the reasons that prompted San Marino to consider her for their 2020 participation in the world's largest live music event.

Denmark: Ben & Tan - Yes

65z256756854.jpg

Ben & Tan have won the Danish national final for Eurovision 2020 with the song 'Yes'.

The Danish national final was held on Saturday 7 March at the Royal Arena in Copenhagen. For the first time in history, the show took place without its usual audience of 10,000 people. Public broadcaster DR made this decision after Danish authorities ordered organizations to postpone or cancel all events with more than 1000 visitors.

Ben & Tan is a Danish duo consisting of Benjamin Rosenbohm and Tanne Balcells. The duo met while both competed in season twelve of X Factor. Their song is about being open to love, even if it might derail your initial plans.

Cyprus: Sandro - Running

c03621ae90c7.jpg

Cypriot public broadcaster has premiered the official music video for Sandro's Eurovision 2020 song. 'Running' was written by Alfie Arcuri, Sebastian Metzner Rickards, Octavian, Sandro and Teo DK. Sandro will perform in the second half of the first Semi-Final in Rotterdam on 12 May.

Sandro, born Alessandro H. Ruetten was born on 2 August 1996 in Germany, where he currently resides. Sandro is characterized by his recognizable and colourful voice and his natural ability to connect with the audience and thus convey the emotions of the songs he performs.

As an artist, Sandro's philosophy is that music must be authentic, truthful and with a goal to reach peoples’ hearts. This is, of course, reflected in the feel of Running: it's a dark story that showcases the struggle against adversity and the storms we have to weather in life.
