50 years ago today, 8th August 1969, 4 guys walked across a pedestrian crossing and a photograph was taken ... the rest (as they say) is history

And for anyone here, I guess there will be one or two, who has never heard this classic album here it is - It starts at track one and will auto play through the 17 tracks to the 27sec homage to the Queen

On this day: 4th September

In 1949, Königsberg-born housewife Herta Heuwer first opened up a snack stall in western Berlin (Charlottenburg). On Sept. 4, 1949, as local lore goes, foot traffic was light, and she had time to experiment, mixing sweet peppers, paprika, tomato ketchup, and curry powder, then serving the resulting sauce hot over a sliced, fried bratwurst.

The Currywurst turns 70 today!

Thank you for remembering the Queen of Currywurst. It's from time to time the best meal ever. And ONLY the currywurst from Berlin --- not from Frankfurt, Munich or Stuttgart and so on. That are all cheap copycats!!!!! :p:blushing::p:blushing:

30 years now East and West is together! It is great - it is wonderful. You may say that is FREEDOM! But it is my opinion and my feeling that we are living like stepbrothers and stepsisters. Until now - after such a very long time - we are not a real united family! And that is something the policy will not tell you. But we will try to get this standart. What's really hard is, that many former Est-Germans will tell you how "wonderful" it was during the time with "Erich". And for me the most malicious sentence is: "It wasn't everything bad in the GDR!" - That sounds for me like the sentence after the war "With Adolf wasn't everything bad!"

Addendum: Be careful, you're getting political.

Sometimes it's not enough to merely push the thanks button. I must thank unp personally for what he's just done here.

20 years ago, Slovenia hosted the Ukrainians in Ljubljana in the first leg of Euro 2000 qualifying playoffs. With the score level at 1-1 and with seven minutes remaining, the visitors' goalkeeper Oleksandr Shovkovsky got the ball near the corner flag. There was no pressure on him, but he decided to kick the ball forward rather aimlessly. It was the biggest mistake of his career.

Mile Acimovic received the ball near the halfway line, stopped it classily and immediately sent it towards the open goal with only his second touch. Shovkovsky made a desperate effort to prevent the precise shot from going in, but to no avail. The 22-year-old midfielder, who only entered the field as a second half substitute and wasn't considered a star even by local Slovenian standards, celebrated wildly with teammates and fans. And so Slovenia went to their first European Championships.

Still breaks my heart - the loss of the most perfect voice of the 20th century :(

Today, Tom and Jerry — the iconic cartoon series — turns 80.

It was in 1940 when the first episode was ever aired of the animated franchise and series of comedy short films. The cat-and-mouse duo were created by William Hannah and Joseph Barbera.

The series first appeared in one Metro Goldwyn Mayer (MGM) cartoon “Puss Gets the Boot”. The pair was then introduced with their current names in the subsequent 1941 short film “The Midnight Snack”.

By 1958, Tom and Jerry appeared in 114 short films directed by Hannah and Barbera and received seven Oscars.

In the 80 years since their creation, the cat and mouse have appeared in everything from a "kids" version to a 1992 musical movie where they sang and spoke.
