A great dance remix by a beauty taken from this Earth all too soon...
Many people remember actress Brittany Murphy from her many movie roles in films such as "Clueless", "Girl, Interrupted" and "Sin City". What a lot of people didn't know was that she was pretty multi-talented: she was a burgeoning singer as well. She was in the midst of prepping her debut CD before her shocking passing in 2009 at the age of 32.
She recorded a song called "Faster Kill Pussycat" with dance producer Paul Oakenfold in 2006. The surprise track was a huge hit; topping the Billboard Dance Chart. This is one of my favorite remixes of the song.
It's so sad to realize that she was only at the beginning of reaching her full potential. Rest in peace always, sweet Brittany.
Such a powerful song from another soul that is no longer with us.
Say what you want about Michael Jackson, but there are some things that can't ever be denied:
1. Without him, a lot of artists would never have come to pass.
2. When he was on his game, he was on top; hands down.
3. He released music with a message, even if you didn't want to always hear it.
This track probably fits in with the last part of that. The original version of this song contains some words that people found offensive. Of course, Michael used them to make a point, but the public won out and future pressings of the CD this was found on ("HIStory: Past, Present and Future; Book I") had the song censored. I actually had the original uncensored one years ago, but lost it.
It took me forever to find the uncensored one online and I treasure it so much in it's raw form. This is one of those "stand up and fight" tracks that just works; no matter who you are and it proves that Michael has his truest power when he truly wanted to see a change. He will be forever missed and there will never be another like him... but we will always have his music to help us remember the true "King of Pop" that he was.
"Tell me what has become of my rights
Am I invisible because you ignore me?
Your proclamation promised me free liberty, now
I'm tired of bein' the victim of shame
They're throwing me in a class with a bad name
I can't believe this is the land from which I came..."
I could say loads about this song (and yes, the actual extended version from the video is what's playing on my iPod), but I already wrote a long blog about it; explaining what I took away from it and why I love it so much.
In a moment of shameless self-promotion, you can read that here.
Since Loveless went totally 80's on his latest choice, I feel better in sharing mine...
What do you get when you take the theme from my all-time favorite 80's movies and my iPod? Well... OK, that makes no sense. But I love "Mannequin" with Kim Catrall and this song is a major part of that. Such an amazing song; a total classic.
"And we can build this dream together
Standing strong forever
Nothing's gonna stop us now
And if this world runs out of lovers
We'll still have each other
Nothing's gonna stop us; nothing's gonna stop us now..."
